Your family’s photos stay yours

FamiFotos is built so that your photos and everything you know about them stay on your own Mac. This page explains the little we do see, and why.

Last updated: 4 November 2026

Who we are

FamiFotos is made by G Jakob, trading as FamiFotos (our postal address is on the Terms page). For anything about your data, email support@famifotos.com. We are the “controller” of the personal information described here under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

The app: your photos never come to us

FamiFotos works on the photos in a folder you choose on your Mac. Your photos, the names, dates and stories you add, your family tree and the faces it learns are kept on your Mac (or in your own iCloud Drive, if you put your archive there). There is no FamiFotos account, and the app does not send us your photos, your family’s details or any record of how you use it.

The app connects to the internet only:

  • the first time it needs them, to download free face-recognition and photo-enhancement models from GitHub. Nothing about you or your photos is sent;
  • when you choose to share — sending photos to Google Photos, or publishing a Family link on Netlify. These go to your own Google and Netlify accounts, which you set up, under Google’s and Netlify’s own privacy policies. They never pass through us;
  • when you check or activate your licence (once the app is on sale), which sends your licence key and the app version — nothing else;
  • once a day at most, to read a small public file on famifotos.com that says whether a newer version is out. The request carries only the app version — nothing about you or your photos.

Photos of living relatives are left out of anything you share unless you include them.

Buying FamiFotos

Orders are handled by Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle takes your payment details and handles VAT; we never see your card. Paddle shares with us what we need to give you a licence and support: your name, email address, country, what you bought and when. Paddle’s own use of your information is covered by Paddle’s privacy policy.

Emailing us

If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you and see what happened before. If you send “details for support” from the app, they include the app version and recent activity (such as which step ran and any error) — you can read them before you send. We only use them to answer you.

If you ask to be told when FamiFotos launches, we keep your email address for that one message and delete it afterwards unless you become a customer.

This website

famifotos.com uses no cookies and no advertising. To see how many people visit and which pages they read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies, without storing anything on your device and without identifying you or following you to other sites; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server logs (such as your IP address and the page requested) for security and to keep the site running; see Netlify’s privacy policy. Our fonts are served from this site, not from Google.

How long we keep things

  • Order and licence records: for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting (usually six years).
  • Support emails: for up to three years after we last hear from you.
  • Launch-news requests: until the launch email is sent.

Why we’re allowed to

We use order details to fulfil our contract with you and meet legal obligations, support emails because you’ve asked us to help (our legitimate interest in answering you), and launch-news requests because you asked for them (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, or to stop using it. Email support@famifotos.com; we’ll reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how the app treats your photos, we’ll also say so in the app’s release notes.
